Poppy seed contains milk juice rich in alkaloids. It is used as an oil plant containing up to 55% oil in the seeds and many alkaloids. In 100 grams of poppy seed, fat content is 41.56 grams, carbohydrates 28.13 grams, proteins 17.99 grams and whole 525 kcal. In the poppy seeds, we find low levels of B vitamins and higher levels of sodium and potassium. We are used to put poppy seeds in different bakeries - bread, pastries, biscuits, and stuffing them. Poppy seed is commonly used in salads and different pasta but pre-baked or stacked in hot water for more than 3 hours. When using the seed in salads it is advisable to seal it before it makes their flavor and aroma stronger. When using poppy seed in pastry or basil preparation, it is best to flood it with boiling water and stand for 1 to 3 hours before use. The poppy seed syrup is painkiller and expectorant. The gargle with poppy seed infusion helps with toothache. Poppy seed is also used for abdominal pain, irregular menstruation, heart palpitation, etc.

Directions for use: Prepare an infusion of 2 tablespoons. seed and 250 ml of boiling water. Take 1 tsp. tea at 2 o'clock. If poppy seeds are crushed and mixed with water, a white, milk-like liquid is called a poppy. It is used internally in large doses (half a cup of 3-4 times a day) in hemorrhoids and hard-on-going inflammation of the lungs.
